Following a twelve month trial period, The Moth House is delighted to announce the launch of our Artistic Practice Support Scheme, an initiative supported by The Arts Council England, whose sole objective is the provision of free, career advice and portfolio feedback for emerging artists.
As part of our commitment to supporting the professional development of UK photography, we will be funding established, mid-career UK artists (which we will refer to as mentors) to hold regular, free advice sessions with emerging visual practitioners.
Especially assigned mentors will hold 1-hour Zoom meetings with less established artists in which they will look at their portfolios and projects and provide them invaluable information to deal with the creative and financial rigours of their practice.
This may include providing project specific and research advice, feedback on university and funding applications, career and marketplace advice and contacts, etc.
Mid-career artists will be provided a stipend of £100-£150 for their time and emerging artists wishing to apply to be mentored, will be subject to a £10 admin fee (payable if and once you’ve been selected. If you’re unable to afford the £10 admin fee, please let us know your circumstances and we will consider wavering it.).
However, the mentorship sessions, themselves, are free for emerging artists.
If you’re interested in mentoring an artist or in being mentored, please email us the following information:

.a brief bio with work experience (1x A4 page);
.a (1x A4 page) PDF or link to a finished body of work;
.a short text explaining why you’d like to be involved in this program (for mentors only);
.a short text explaining how the program could help develop your work (for mentees only). Please be as specific as you can with the areas you’d like support with, i.e., funding, marketplace contacts, project development, dissemination, etc.

Artists will be selected on merit and on the basis of their requirements, needs and ambition.
The deadline for the first round of applications is the 20th November 2020. We hope to run a second round in March 2021, subject to funding availability.
We welcome applications from artists from diverse backgrounds.
The positive impact of this program on artists cannot be overstated.  Over the last twelve months it has provided inspiration, focus, a source of ambition and aspiration, access to professional artists, new approaches, skills, contacts, energy and momentum.
This initiative is funded by the Arts Council England until 2021, but we would like to extend it well beyond then so if you would like to support us, please refer to our GoFundMe campaign, below.
