This artwork was produced in the context of Carlos Barradas’ Ferry Tales series. This ongoing series of work explores the departure, journey and arrival of a myriad of ferry crossings, and the ship as heterotopia par excellence.
This publication is produced within the context of Edgar Martins’ retrospective exhibition at the Centre Culturel Calouste Gulbenkian in Paris (Oct-Dec 2010) and brings together images from series created between 2005-2010, making possible a transverse appraisal of his photographic production, its unique characteristics, and conceptual framework.
Grandma, is an artwork from Helfrecht’s latest series “Unternächte”, which reflects on the period between Winter Solstice and Epiphany in Bavaria – a time known in parts of Southern Germany and Austria as “Rauhnächte”. Exploring ideas of rituality, magic, divination, dreams and clairvoyance, the artist holds in tension old family myths and history with new rituals she seeks to create with her camera and experiences.
This dypthic was produced in the context of Edgar Martins’ What Photography & Incarceration have in Common with an Empty Vase, a project which results from a collaboration with inmates, incarcerated in the West Midlands, their families and a myriad of other individuals and community groups in the region.
