The past few months have been challenging for the arts, to say the least, but it’s with great joy that we can share with you today that in addition to an Arts Council Grant to launch the popular mentorship scheme which we have been trialling over the past few months (please see Mentorship section) The Moth House has also been awarded a lifeline grant from the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund CRF) to help face the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic and to ensure it has a sustainable future.
We are one of 588 cultural and creative organisations across the country receiving urgently needed support – with £76 million of investment announced today. This follows £257 million awarded earlier in the week to 1,385 organisations, also from the Culture Recovery Fund grants programme being administered by Arts Council England on behalf of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
The Moth House has worked in the private/public arts sector since 2002 and it has a double focus: on the other hand the publication of high quality and experimental artists’ books and, on the other, the delivery of a myriad of arts and educational activities, such as exhibitions, talks, symposia, workshops, etc.
Over the past two decades we have dedicated a great deal of our resources to artist-led schemes, which have benefited a wide array of talent.
We have also aimed to deepen the quality of cultural provision in the UK by giving a voice to individuals who have too often been overlooked. Through a comprehensive outreach program with our gallery and museum partners, we have sought to mobilise vulnerable and underprivileged groups such as suicide bereavement and mental health support groups, ex-offenders and their families, individuals on the Autism spectrum, etc.
With this grant we are more confident than ever that we can continue delivering exceptional projects, publications and public engagement activities. We are grateful to both the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport an the Arts Council England for their support and investment.
Over the next few days we will be announcing details regarding our upcoming talk, editorial and exhibition programs, as well as details on the Open Call for the Artistic Practice Support scheme, an initiative whose sole objective is the provision of free, career advice and portfolio feedback for emerging artists.
Through this initiative we will be funding established, mid-career UK artists to hold regular, free advice sessions with emerging visual practitioners. Stay tuned.
