Following successful exhibitions at Open Eye Gallery, MAAT and Cristina Guerra Contemporary Art, The Moth House is pleased to announce the release of Edgar Martins’ new book Siloquies and Soliloquies on Death, Life and Other Interludes.
Produced in collaboration with the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Portugal, this project proposes to scrutinize, expose and hold in tension many of the contradictions and problems inherent in the conceptualisation, definition and depiction of death, whilst also reflecting on Photography’s role in this process.
Siloquies and Soliloquies on Death, Life and Other Interludes is Martins’ most accomplished body of work to date, marking a clear departure from his default methodology. In this publication Martins adopts a hybrid approach which encompasses the use of fictional and documentary images,  previously unseen archive material such as historical photographs, confidential case and medical files, crime and suicide-scene evidence, photo-installation and text, all the while tapping into the scholarship of several field experts.
Siloquies and Soliloquies on Death, Life and Other Interludes includes essays by renowned Portuguese curator Sérgio Mah, academic and writer Roger Luckhurst and philosopher Timothy Secret.
Siloquies and Soliloquies on Death, Life and Other Interludes will be launched at Paris Photo on November 11 at the following locations: Melanie Rio Gallery, stand A10 (4-5pm);  Purdy Hicks Gallery, stand D37 (5-6pm).
